Who says artists should only hire one producer for their album? If there were a strict rule for that, Conkarah would be a true rebel. On his new EP album, Conkarah To The World, Conkarah embodies the theme of “reggae around the world” to the fullest by collaborating with producers from the United Kingdom, Mexico, USA, Austria, Germany, Australia, India, Poland, France, Indonesia and Jamaica.
Conkarah tells us, “for my new EP album, I wanted to showcase how reggae music has spread worldwide and I’m very proud of the outcome. Each of the producers got to showcase their work and add their own unique flavor to their own riddim for each song. Even though this was all done online, I just love how it has all come together.”

Every so often, there are artists that manage to create their own style; this usually results from the experimentation of combining multiple musical styles outside their comfort zone. Bob Marley and The Wailers, Shaggy and Sean Paul were bold enough to do so and have gained international acclaim.
Conkarah is no different. On his new EP, Loverbwoy/Rudebwoy (produced by Ezra), Conkarah fuses dubstep with reggae and dancehall to create a new style that we call “reggae-step”. On his latest single, “Be Mine”, Conkarah mixes electronic dancehall rhythms, syncopated synth-reggae melodies and dramatic dubstep fader effects to craft this “reggae-step” love anthem. Like most sing-jays, Conkarah switches between his fiery DJ toasting and sweet singing abilities throughout the song’s verses and choruses. Both “Be Mine” and his EP prove that experimentation really does pay off.

Performing live at Jamaica’s Reggae Sumfest 2012
If you’re seeking “feel good” music, look no further than Jamaica’s talented reggae singer, Conkarah. With hits like “Forever”, “Draw You Close”, “Addicted”, “Island Girl” and “No Barbershop”, Conkarah is no stranger to the music industry. In fact, he performed at last year’s Reggae Sumfest 2012 alongside Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Bunny Wailer (of Bob Marley & the Wailers) and many more. We got a chance to sit down with Conkarah and discuss his music, inspiration, goals and the global success of reggae music.
For those not familiar with you, can you briefly tell us how your musical career began?
“I was walking through one of the halls at my university and walked past a choir rehearsal. It was fantastic! From the harmonies to the tonality, I said to myself ‘I have to audition’. The very next day, I did just that and earned a spot with the bass/baritones. After my first choir practice, it was a wrap. I knew I’d never be truly happy doing anything else but music, and it’s been an exciting journey ever since.”
